NYKTRN - Tessellation EP

NYKTRN – Tessellation EP: A Cinematic Descent Through Order, Chaos, and Renewal

In an age of playlists, skipping, and scrolling, there are still artists who craft experiences meant to be felt, not just heard. NYKTRN’s new EP, ‘Tessellation’, is one of those rare works — a continuous, evolving journey through light and shadow, structure and disarray, rise and collapse. Spanning the genres of Bass, Rave, Chill, Electronic, Dubstep, and cinematic sound design, ‘Tessellation’ invites listeners to slow down and immerse themselves in an unbroken narrative that rewards patience, curiosity, and presence.

At its core, ‘Tessellation’ explores the delicate balance between order and entropy — the interplay that sustains harmony until the pendulum swings too far, and the cycle collapses inward to start anew. Across four chapters — “Tessellation,” “Aether,” “Ouroboros,” and “Fragmentation” — NYKTRN traces an emotional and energetic arc that mirrors the endless cycle of creation, destruction, and rebirth.

1. Tessellation
The journey opens with “Tessellation,” a track that rises from the ashes with patience and intention. The atmosphere is smoky and deliberate, as though the pieces of something once broken are beginning to reassemble. Deep, cinematic basslines pulse beneath fractured melodies, forming a lattice of sound that feels both geometric and organic — perfectly fitting its title. There’s a sense of emergence, of order coalescing out of chaos. It’s as if NYKTRN is constructing a foundation not just for the EP, but for a world — one defined by motion, shadow, and light refracting through endless angles.

2. Aether
The ascent continues with “Aether,” a track that lifts from the grounded density of the opener into something more luminous and open. The basslines stretch outward, giving way to shimmering synths and a weightless pulse that feels both meditative and alive. The track seems to float in the liminal space between earth and sky, between momentum and stillness — a perfect electric embodiment of the element it’s named after. Here, NYKTRN’s meditative sensibilities shine through; a surfer by nature, his sense of flow and rhythm feels deeply attuned to the push and pull of waves, both literal and emotional.

3. Ouroboros
The centerpiece of the EP, “Ouroboros,” is where NYKTRN dives deep into the cyclical nature of energy and emotion. The track loops and folds in on itself, echoing its symbolic namesake — the serpent consuming its own tail. Layers of distortion and melody twist into hypnotic shapes, creating a sense of tension and self-reflection. There’s something ritualistic about it; it feels like a return and a reckoning all at once. Within its structure lies a profound statement — that endings and beginnings are one and the same, endlessly consuming and creating each other.

4. Fragmentation
Closing the EP is “Fragmentation,” the heaviest and most deliberate movement of the four. The tempo slows; the air thickens. The bass hits like the shifting of tectonic plates — immense and cleansing. It’s the sound of collapse not as catastrophe, but as catharsis. Everything fractures so that everything can begin again. The closing moments fade like dust in the air after a storm, leaving the listener with an echo of the cycle that began in “Tessellation.”

Played in sequence and gapless, the EP functions as one evolving piece — an exploration of transformation through sound. NYKTRN’s approach to freeform bass music blends immersive psychedelia with emotional introspection, pulling from textured soundscapes and subtle cinematic tension. His work moves with intention; every detail feels alive, unfolding like breath.

With Tessellation, NYKTRN reminds us that in an “ADHD generation” of instant content, there’s still profound beauty in the long form — in sitting still, listening deeply, and letting sound reshape your inner landscape. This is not just a collection of tracks, but a meditative passage through the eternal loop of rise, decay, and rebirth.
